might have to rethink the no-socks thing

On Thursday, our boss told us all to go home early and not to come in on Friday. We've all done about as much as can be done before the Chuseok holiday, and a crucial phone call that the boss had been waiting for didn't happen at the promised time of 4 p.m. Thursday, so the boss said "fuck it" and told us to leave. Never one to say no to a command to leave early, I walked home: it was a beautiful day for a walk (keeping in mind that Typhoon Chantu will be brushing by the peninsula this weekend), so I walked—sockless—back to my place.

During the walk, though, I developed a hot spot on my left ankle that is now making me rethink the idea of walking sockless down the east coast. I can Leukotape the hot spot, which is rather small and specific, and/or I can wear socks. It's tempting to retreat into caution, and the last thing any hiker wants or needs is a problem related to any part of his legs, which includes the ankles. I think I'll try Leukotaping the ankle first, but I'll keep a pair of socks with me in case other hot spots develop.

It's already Friday! Since we're not going in to work, I'm going to cook the Moroccan-inspired chicken dish I had planned to serve, whip up the couscous to go along with it, and stick it in the office's freezer—along with some homemade Italian sausage—as a parting gift for my coworkers. I'll email my coworkers instructions on how to handle the chicken and sausage after they come back from Chuseok. Will try to get all that food over to the office by 3 p.m., which is about when I need to leave for East Seoul Express Bus Terminal to catch my 5 p.m. bus out to Daejin on the east coast. Catch the bus, then either walk from Daejin Terminal to my pension or grab a cab for the final 6-7 kilometers. The only reason why I'm considering the taxi is that I don't want to arrive at the pension too late. The friendly lady there is expecting me, and I don't want to make her wait.

I was honestly a little worried when you mentioned the idea of walking without socks. I think if you had shoes that were designed for that sort of thing (like Vibram running shoes or something), that might work. But for regular walking shoes I would definitely have some socks.

I guess you can try it out and fall back to socks if things start to go south.

They're forecasting rain for 6 or 7 of the next 10 days in the Gangneung region, so I might not have much of a choice but to wear socks. Am currently Leukotaped up. Looks like it's going to be a rainy month, the rainiest since I began doing these walks.

Well that sucks. Hopefully it won't be as bad as the forecast says it will be.

Fingers crossed for the rain gods to intervene and keep at least the East Coast somewhat dry.
